Living in a small town away from it all is quite nice. You can sit outside and not worry about hearing blaring horns of bustling traffic or near by factories clanking away instead you can hear flowing streams while wind whooshes through the surrounding trees, and nature of all sorts making their own tunes.
Yes the small town life is nice,
But
the downside to this is you are quite a bit of driving distance from other things.
By this I mean; eating establishments, coffee shops, movie theaters, shopping stores, and the list goes on. Which in turn does not give you many options to go out and do anything unless you plan on making that drive and by then might as well make a day of it and by that time your day is already full taking care of that life in the country that comes with its own maintenance and requirements,
So
when it comes to date nights in the country creativity has to kick in.
Me and my husband are still kids at heart and recently I pulled together a date night that involved turning one of our rooms into a huge fort. Sheets hanging from the ceiling fan surrounding us entirely and gathering as many pillows possible as a barrier all around the bottom edges with lanterns and lamps lighting up the inside. And within this fort I set up the sitting area with foods such as pizza bites I created from crescent roll dough, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and garlic along with popcorn, chocolates, and a 3 part adventure escape room board game. We snacked while finding a way to escape a crazy dentist office then an abandon space shuttle within a dimly lit area matching the games haunting atmosphere and music to get the full effect you may have at an actual escape room else ware.
(Of course Sugar and Spice were there to, they just was not much help when it came to finding out how to escape, more for moral distracting support😊)
Another time we had a date box in which that evening included creating art pieces and cake pops from scratch. Overall we did enjoy this unique experience and something simple anyone can do at home together with what you probably already have lying around.
(And yes those cake pops tasted how they look. Leaving that to your own discretion.😉)
Along with these in home ideas for a country living date night there are outdoor activities such as a picnic or just a ride and walk along the lake or that near by river.
In the end you may save a little money and build up on that quality time.
So, what does today's Friday night date night look like for you?
