Helping Sounds

I have previously mentioned before about my slight issue of focusing. Whether I am trying to shut my brain off to go to bed, stay tuned to a paper I am needing to write, or trying to remember to complete some tasks to the best I can without getting distracted in the middle of it all and it never getting it completed, I lose track and focus. While previously mentioning this slight focusing problem I have also mentioned ways I have found to help me stay focused. Something I am doing now to focus my thoughts to bring together the words and sentences to write this blog.

I started off with using this app on my phone called “Sleep Sounds”. This app is pretty awesome because it gives you the opportunity to choose between many background noises, a traveling train, a flying airplane, the bustle of a city, the calmness of a winter storm night, ocean waves, creekside listening, and so much more. With this you can then add more sounds like a howling wolf, chirping crickets, meditation music, white noise, and again so much more. I continue using this app but expanding further as to not wear one tune or noise out to long knowing some noises help me sleep while others help me think, I have found hour long videos on YouTube that keep a constant picture showing but that is not what it is about. These videos also play a noise of calm and comfort, again with a wide variety of choices depending on what you are looking for and what helps you.

My main go to’s are retro vibes, a relaxing flute playing of the sorts, coffee house jazz with a fireplace, or camping out in the woods during a storm (the noise of a thunderstorm really helps me sleep the best).

When me and my sister were younger she would always be afraid of the storms at night, the thunder and lightning that would be produced from these storms. To me these nights are when I slept at my best. One night when we were little we were staying with some family. Sleeping peacefully I was awakened fast by my aunt who asked me if I would like to sleep with them if I was scared. Turns out my sister and cousin were already awakened by the horrible storm brewing outside and in bed with them, but I had not joined them. Of course, once awaken and realizing how dark it was and how alone I was being to far down the hall away from everyone I decided to take my aunt up on her offer and stayed with all of them that night as well.

Now, me and my husband have this sound box we set up about a month or two ago that we set off at night to help us both fall asleep, and I will have to say it has been great. I still have nights I do not sleep at all, but it has made it much better. This box too lets you choose your own choice of sound in which we have tried ocean waves or a fan, but we leave it on that stormy night sound realizing it works the best so far.

What helps you sleep and focus?

Let me know and I may can try it. I have also attached the links to some of the things I use so maybe it can help you too.
