Growing up within a divided family it is hard to say what our family holiday traditions were each year. Considering me and my sister were with my mom and her family one year then the next with my dad and his family making it where we did not do the same thing each year. There is one thing I can remember and that is each time we were able to spend Christmas with our mom we had the tradition of opening one gift apiece on Christmas Eve, but besides that no other traditions of remembrance.
Since then me and my husband have created our own traditions to look forward to at certain times of the year every year and this weekend we have started one of them.
We are huge fans of Harry Potter. The first movie my husband ever saw in theaters was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the beginning movie of this franchise. What was incredible about this group of movies is how the story line kept most of the original actors throughout the entire set. In today's time that does not always happen. It makes the story so much better when you can use the same people for the same character each time. You can see as they grow and change between each movie and it really helps connect the role and bring it out. Also considering we were about the same age as the characters within it as they first started we connected ourselves to the movies as if we really knew them or that was something that could happen. Now of course as adults we know this to not be true now, but as a kids with our imagination it was cool knowing there were kids our age out there able to do magic and go somewhere like Hogwarts. We all wanted to go there.
But now since we have grown up and the movies are no longer in theaters we settle for this time of year where we can just rewatch the entire series on DVD from start to finish together among the Christmas tree lights with bowls of popcorn in hand and warm mugs of hot cocoa.
What about you? Do you have any holiday traditions you look forward to?
