Well our "Snow Day" on 1•10•21 was just a prequel to the "real" snow day on 2•15•21. We thought it was awesome last month to have that frosty sleet day, but it was nothing compared to the real deal here in our small town where snow is unfamiliar territory on the 15th.
I was a kid all over again, going to sleep the night before with sleet falling down thinking that is all that could be here but hoping for more and then waking up to let the dogs out to a snow covered yard and seeing only white as far as my vision could reach. It was beautiful and very neat to see here at home.
The furbabies were all freezing even within their knitted dog sweaters and lamp heated homes but they still enjoyed it. After only a few hours the snow covered fenced yard was covered in sunken paw prints. Bella carried around frozen icicles as if they were chew toys. Sugar and Spice chased one another around Spice pausing momentarily here and there to eat snow from our hands and snip at it. The cats however were not fond of it and preferred their beds over any of it. There was one point they came out to be chased around by Spice then immediately ran back to their bedded crates to hide and sleep.
Once the fur babies had their fun and they were ready to go back inside to become dry and warm, me and my husband trudged around through the woods and down to the creek to catch a few good pictures and enjoy this unique weather while we could. The bare trees holding snow. The creek still streaming with run offs frozen. We were unable to make a snowman but we made snowballs and had a small fight.
Previous to this weather I had seen where you could fill water balloons with dyed water and freeze them outside so luckily I had regular balloons and we were able to try this neat idea out. First we filled 8 balloons up, 2 of each colors I had, red blue yellow and green. Well we had them piled on one another in two bowls ready to carry them out back and lay them on the ground to freeze. My husband trying to joke around went to pick one up out of the bowl that was on top of the pile and it instantly busted in his hands sending red dyed water all over the counter and kitchen floor. All I could do was laugh while he was stood frozen in his water drenched clothes not wanting to believe what just happened. After containing my cool I grabbed several towels to soak up the puddles around him and as we were drying the area it turned out the water had drizzled within the drawers causing us to pull each out individually and wash and dry everything within them. It just happened to be the biggest balloon of the group of course and made a very big, funny, mess. After that we carried the rest outside to freeze. By the end of the day I thought they were frozen enough but of course they were not except one blue one, but that was okay, the balloons tore apart leaving 75% crystalized water globes a few breaking within our hands as we were tearing away the material covering them. They still turned out well. I had sent a picture of the idea to my sister in law and her and my nieces were able to create a few that turned out really well and how they were suppose to actually look.
After we had our fun in the snow we were able to create a fire in our fireplace curl up with the dogs eat warm red beans and rice with sausage and have a super hero movie marathon.
(By the way these two are my moms furbabies, we are dog sitting three of the many they have for a week and they were in on the fun and pictures as well😉. Stella curls up in Sugars spot on the beanie bag and Sophie stays warm in someone's lap to tiny to feel the fires warmth from just the floor😊.)
All in all a snow day here was a great experience and I am glad we were able to be here for it.
