It has been too long since I have been to a rodeo. I realized that once I had the chance to go to one a few weeks ago.
It was in a small town of Oklahoma and it was quite an experience. First off it was PACKED. I had not been to one so full, people squashed in shoulder to shoulder with no seats really left available. We were shoved around quite a bit with those sitting beside us or constantly up and down wanting in and out of the aisle. Now us being packed in could be because a storm blew in just as we gave our tickets to the ones out front. We had watched the dark blue and grey clouds roll in as we walked from down the street to the arena and as we made our way to the covered seating and as soon as we came to a seat the thunder and rain started pounding above, water leaking through holes in the tin. This did not hinder the night though.
I always enjoyed the bull and bronc riding. I guess due to it keeps you on the edge of your seat more even though there is always that chance of someone getting hurt, but it is always entertaining to watch. That incredible feeling I am sure the rider feels making the full 8 seconds. In all I love watching the horses no matter the event, they are beautiful and well trained and carefully keep their rider on board and safe. One of the rodeo clowns was a trick rider as well. The first I had seen in person. It was crazy to see him hang of the side of his horse or jump down and immediately back up with out hesitation and also run side to side with the horse fully trusting in the horse and to know they would not hurt him or interrupt the act. Besides his trick act his comedic act was hilarious as well.
But one of the funniest events of the evening was when the announcer informed all the kids in their seats that it was time to come to the middle if they wanted to participate. I am not sure the name of this event, but immediately kids everywhere where jumping over the rails and running towards the announcers box stand and then lining up side by side across an entire end. Suddenly four calves are released at the opposite end and the announcer yells "GO"! and the kids take off looking like a swarm or stampede heading for the small cows. As soon as they saw the group coming they spun around to run away. What the kids were doing was running after the calves that each had a ribbon tied to their tails and whatever kid could get a ribbon got a prize. It was too funny.
At one point of the evening the group released several mustangs to let them run around the arena and exercise some, it was such a site to see then as the last event came to play the last bull rider finished his ride and as the bull was corralled back through the gates unfortunately someone left outer gates open as well and the bull ran out off the arena grounds altogether. Several men on their horses went flying across the ground to the back to lasso down the bull to get him back.
I'm glad we were able to go to this rodeo,
now who else is wanting to go to one?
(I know it is the wrong date they reused tickets from the previous year)
