Here lately there seems to have been several scheduled meteor showers, along with the planets aligning to create super stars, and even the moon at its fullest seems closer and brighter.
The Geminid meteor shower was present last month and this past weekend the Quadrantid meteor shower was in effect. Apparently these showers are scheduled throughout the year ever year constantly but for some reason here lately these past few months they have become more relevant and popular making themselves known more and set on peoples calendars. I am not sure if it is cause more people are stuck at home and can see these shows from their own carport or may be it means more by giving individuals escapes from their own homes they are stuck in by able to look out and above into the beyond, the vastness of the beauty of the dark never-ending sky with the enormous amount of twinkling stars that surround us. Whatever the case may be me and my husband are ones to sit out sometimes and try to see these live events up above, but never seem to catch them in the act or we end up forgetting and do not sit out on time during peak hours or on the correct nights.
However for this Quadrantid shower I may just have caught a few glimpse of passing by meteors this morning. Whether or not they were just normal shooting stars or part of this movement I saw a few early this morning when driving along our country highways. All was calm, no other traffic, the sun had not risen yet and I saw two back to back in nearly the same spot. Now yes I was watching the roads and paying attention to my surroundings, but I was also occasionally glancing up and looking at the peaceful beautiful sky above. May be if I was stopped and able to continuously stare above I could have caught more. I went out last night walking along the drive way to check on something looking up as I walked along hoping to catch a glimpse or anything moving, but nothing. The moon had not even made its way out yet and there were several stars surrounding all around me high above, but not moving, stationary in place, or so it would seem. Just calmly staying there lighting up the dark sky. It never dawned on me to be able to go out and see the night sky early in the morning to try and catch one of these scheduled events. We always sit out at night to watch and see. I guess it is easier to stay up till 10p or so to catch the falling stars/rocks instead of waking up at 3a or so to check. I just so happened to be up that early this morning to see those very few and it was incredible.
Have any of you had the chance to watch and see a meteor shower or any type of celestial event?
What about just catching one shooting star randomly in the middle of the night and wishing upon it?
I hope so.
It sure is a majestic magical view and something everyone needs to try and take the time to do, to just stop and look up. Take it all in.
It may just help relax the soul and enjoy natures many beauties.
