The Nerve to Try Something New

Writer's picture: coffeetimecoffeetime

It is that time of year where many changes are beginning to happen. New job, internship, schoolwork shift, and so much more. It is all exciting but at the same time nerve wrecking. Trying to step out of my comfort zone to have proper training, to be able to make contacts with future acquaintances to move forward in this career journey together, and to continue to grow who I am and find out what I can do. I can start gaining new coworkers and experiences to learn and expand myself as a professional and I am beyond excited but at the same time afraid.

Who wouldn’t be right?

I think it is okay to be afraid at times and to let your nerves get to you, that just makes us human.

But that does not mean we let those nerves ruin and run us.

One classmate that has been with me since day one has her own social media blog and sharing moments of insight and educational growth. Her posts are quite helpful even though we are in the same level of our program. We continue to go over exams and papers together and share information as needed to keep one another sane and on track. It has been nice to be able to have someone in the same steps with the same questions to know we are not alone in the times we could really use assist to make sure we are understanding properly and to learn from one another and be able to adequately work as counselors. Also, I have now come to the understanding I will be having another classmate interning at the same facility as me. This I hope will ease the transition because now I know someone will be on the same page as me going through this from the beginning.

A quote I ran into the other day stuck with me, especially as all these changes were coming my way.

“A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” – Albert Einstein

I find this quote refreshing and relatable. I have definitely had my shared mistakes but do not regret any of them. How would I know if something was going to work out or be for me if I did not try it to begin with? I could talk myself out of a lot, out of things that bring me to light that could seem rather odd or different just like the way I write but this influence and thoughts others could have does not fray me from trying. I could let my shyness take control, hide within a shell and comfy place, but if I do that how do I know what career and facility suits me. Where can I help the most, do the most? The only way to know is to try something new and learn from it.

I hope that no matter what I will continue to try something new, I will continue to wonder with curiosity and see where it takes me.

So tell me, what is your something new your going to try today?
