Then and Now

I may not be very old but within my own years of living many changes have occurred that are quite shocking and different and in reality I miss a lot of the “old ways”.

Although shopping online is quite quick and convenient I miss going to the mall or a store in person to have the full fledge experience. To see something in view or try it on before actually buying it. Also, getting it right then and there versus those possible shipment delays or not getting it at all. Now, it does not help to live in a small town where stores are quite limited so then I feel resorted to have to look online. Again, missing out on making the time to go to a store for something instead of turning to the internet has been the change ultimately.

I also remember playground time and spending 90% of the day, a week, or a weekend outside and not on the phone. Now granted some of the time included video games as well but that is a different situation right? I will say I often lay my phone down and forget about it especially in the evenings and on the weekend. This can be either good or bad. Good, because I do not like to feel attached to it and prefer to focus on what I am doing without it. I definitely enjoy the outdoors without it most the time. Not only this, but all too often leave it on silent missing some calls and text and not responding in a correct amount of time would be a downside. Then again, several have survived without a cell phone in the past so why can’t we now?

Movie theaters are a big one for me. It could be a bit cheaper staying home to watch a movie online and even convenient to pause as needed but I completely miss movie theaters. Snacks and drinks can be so expensive yet so tasty. A large movie theater experience is just what I need sometimes. Theater seating has even gotten better. Not to say I would choose the front row unless necessary (which has happened a few times now) but even the seats recline now to make viewing so much better! One thing I am not fond about with a movie going experience is all the reservation online. Having to choose my seats then and there at ticket purchase or beforehand. I used to like going and just checking out the area and going from there where I would like to sit. Now granted I know many enjoy this “reserve a seat, show up late” option, but I like to arrive early and get a seat as I make it especially since I love trailers while many may care less to watch. I mean, I am already paying so much for a movie why not join in on all those extras and special theatrical movies to come trailers?

In all honesty though I do not hate the changes made. Some or most are quite beneficial especially for those who need this or lack other means. But that does not mean I do not miss how things used to be and what we used to enjoy when we were kids, younger, versus how we enjoy it now whether by choice of convenience.

What are your thoughts and some events that have changed from then to now?
