Trip Around the U.S. Part 10

Boating Louisiana's Bayous!

When you hear about Louisiana normally one may think about the bayous and casino boats on the water. True these are a big part of this state but growing up outside of Louisiana and visiting it often due to much family living there, so much more was offered.

When visiting my grandma and them this is where I learned how to play cards and shoot pool. We went fishing often off a small dock at their camp site on the river side. I remember when traveling to their homes or camp I knew we were getting close when the trees covered in stringy moss were appearing and covering the brush and sides of the roads. I used to think these scenes were so beautiful and unique looking, but slightly creepy as to scary movies like to use areas such as this to set their thrilling horror scenes.

One year me, my dad, my stepmom, and a childhood friend took a trip to New Orleans staying the night there and visiting the French Quarter. We also watched an arena bowl football game where the Philadelphia Souls played San Jose Sabercats. The game kept us on our feet and was actually pretty great to watch as it was an extreme close game that year in 2008. During this trip me and my friend experienced some craziness as well by just people watching from the balcony of our hotel room.

A few years ago, I went back to New Orleans with my husband, some friends, and family to a haunted Halloween festival. We had a lantern lit haunted maze through the swampy area, went through several themed haunted houses - one to represent a tomb while another represented a clowned fun house. There was also a zombie shooting outbreak area my brother, cousins, and husband participated in.

For mine and my twin’s 18th and 21st birthday we spent it in Shreveport, LA. For our 18th we toured and shopped alongside the boardwalk and ate some great food and for our 21st stayed at one of the casinos and tried some slots with my stepdad and mother while also shopping at the Bass Pro Shop there.

Now presently it is just thirty minutes away where we sometimes travel often for a good movie or to get food and groceries while my husband travels there every day for work.

This is what Louisiana has meant for me, what about for you?
