Trip Around the U.S. Part 12

A Volcano in New Mexico!

Did you even know there was a volcano in New Mexico, because I sure did not until me and my husband passed a sign and looked it up to see what it was about and then decided to check it out. This volcano erupted over 50 to 60,000 years ago, now known as a monument called the Capulin in Capulin, New Mexico. During this time the temperature was quite cold so when we made it to the top of the volcano everything was froze over. Trees covered in ice and frost covered tumbleweed type bushes. We walked around the entire rim at the top then walked down a staircase into the center.

Now there is still much of New Mexico I have not seen, but during this time of traveling through some of the state we noticed a lot of dry hilly land that had been turned into fields and ranches, these fields contained wild pronghorns when normally we are accustomed to seeing deer, cows, and horses where we are from. Then there were rows and rows of wind turbines, and several small towns with many historical points to remember to try and go back to at some point in time.

A keynote to add and remember I have a friend that took a trip to the area and sent photos and stories of what they saw and experienced which gave me points to remember to include in a mapped-out trip next time around!

When you hear New Mexico, what do you think of visiting there?
