The Twins head to the Georgia Mountains!
Me and my sister took a "Twin Trip" in the middle of the year in 2018. We made week long plans of hiking, camping, site seeing, with road journeying. Our hiking bags were packed and trails printed in hand as we headed off to our main destination which was the mountains and national forest of Georgia.
(Trail maps & Photo journaling the trip)
The first place we stayed was a small hotel in a small curvy hilly road town. Within the first few nights and days there we spent time touring an underground mine and small town cafes along with planning the rest of the week, due to weather things had to be changed.
The third night we still went to Vogel State Park during a thundering rain storm but had planned on tent camping reserving a spot and in turn still did. The park rangers were worried with us staying in a tent in the weather but rest assure we stuck with it popping up our tent quickly. This is the same tent story from my "All Things Camping" post. Of course, a ranger drove by checking on us frequently. We were suppose to camp in parks much more but due to rain each and every day we settled with just hiking but staying in a hotel the rest of the nights. Unfortunately at this park we were unable to hike its trails due to flooding and forcing them to be closed, but still nice to know we can camp out in a storm if need be.
The next place we ended up at where we stayed for the rest of the week was in a slightly bigger town near by with small boutiques and coffee shops. The first time entering our room we walked out on the balcony and looked out over towards the near by lake from 3 stories up and suddenly my sister drops her phone that was laying on the ledge. I filmed and captured from above the whole moment of shame walking down stairs out to the back hill to pick up her phone near some lawn chairs. It was too funny and luckily her phone was perfectly fine, somehow the grass underneath cushioned the fall. Sadly to say I do not have these photos anymore or I just might post them.

During the rest of the trip through the rain we visited Amicalola Falls and hiked so much I thought my legs would give out, went to Brasstown bald mountain, visited a few dams with lakeside walking, a park with hidden treasures, old town history markers like their courts and jails and native American sites, and stopped at several look out points during our back road traveling. One downside due to the clouds and rain we could not see the views from the tallest mountain in town and we were chased back to our vehicle alongside the dam from hard pouring rain.
One of the neatest things during this trip was how many people were in shock over us being twins. I do not know if the towns we were in were just too small to have surprises like twins, but many could not believe it. Now granted me and my sister were known as "the twins" in high school not really by our names but it was neat when strangers think it is cool.
As we ventured back home we made a stop in a very small dirt road square small buildings town at an old fashioned pizza parlor at my request. I love good pizza now and then especially from home owned pizza shops. We stopped on just the right day too, because it was buy one get one free so got to try two new different kinds and have something to eat for the drive back home.
As it end if I have learned anything from this trip, it is to never pass up taking one with your sibling and always stop to smell the roses, capture memories, and enjoy!
So I will leave you with this advice from the Brasstown Bald mountain as I ask; will you take this trip or have you taken it already?
"Reach for new heights. Be well rounded.
There is beauty as far as the eye can see.
Be uplifting, patient, & rise above it all."
